Penns Meadow Basin Conversion

Penns Meadow Basin Conversion

Keystone Consulting Engineers, Inc. (KCE) developed grading, erosion and sediment control and post construction stormwater management plans for this first-in-the-Lehigh Valley pilot project basin conversion which converts an existing conventional detention basin into a naturalized detention basin on an approximately eight (8) acre site. This project was completed as part of a collaborative partnership between Lower Macungie Township and the Lehigh County Conservation District.

The basin conversion plans included the implementation of several post-construction stormwater management BMP’s, including forebays, a vegetated low-flow channel, a wetland, a sand filter and a wet pond to improve water quality and promote evapo-transpiration. The plan also included the conversion of an approximately two-acre turfgrass area to woodland.

This project has been selected as a participant in the Sustainable Site Initiative Pilot Program to test the rating system established by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the United States Botanic Garden.
